Fishing In The Region

The region has a wide variety of good quality fishing in the rivers, reservoirs and lakes.  Anglers can expect to land rainbow and brown trout, salmon, grayling and other coarse fish.  Remember that you will need your NRA Rod Licence and a permit from the owner of the stretch of water you are going to fish.

bulletALSTON & DISTRICT ANGLING ASSOCIATION, on the River South Tyne in Cumbria. The river fishes for salmon, trout, sea trout and the Association has a 12 mile stretch. Permits are available by the day, week or seasonal. Contact The Newsagents, Front Street, Alston. Telephone 01 434 381 462
bulletHEXHAM, Northumberland on The River Tyne. The local Council owns a half mile stretch of river bank at Tyne Green.  All of the regular types of fish can be expected and you can obtain your licence from Hexham TIC which is in the town centre. 
bulletOVINGHAM, Northumberland on The River Tyne. A three mile stretch of river is leased by The Northumbrian Anglers Federation near to Bywell Bridge for salmon and trout. Call the Head Bailiff on 01 670 787 663 for a permit which is £35.00 for trout and £55.00 for salmon.
bulletFALSTONE FISHING CLUB, Northumberland on The River North Tyne. (North of Hexham) They have a two mile stretch with permit available by the day at £10.00, by the week at £50.00 and seasonal at £75.00. Contact Mr Banks on 01 434 240 200 or go to The Blackcock Inn which is in the village of Falstone.
bulletTHE GEORGE HOTEL, Chollerford, Northumberland on The River North Tyne. The hotel will give permits starting at £4.80 a day for a 1000 metre stretch of the river. Call 01 434 681 611. The George is ideally situated for Hadrians Wall and the Roman sites. Hexham is the nearest large town.
