The large location map shows the general area of the North Pennines located close to the borders with Scotland, the main region towns of Carlisle (Cumbria) and Newcastle (Tyneside) are well served from London by two main line rail services. Newcastle also has a large regional airport. Ferries are available to and from Scandinavia and Holland from the River Tyne (Newcastle).

The map below shows the area to the North West of the North Pennines to included the main town of Carlisle, the North Lakes, the west section of Hadrians Wall and routes to Scotland. Note that the A69 connects to Newcastle Upon Tyne and the M6 is the main motorway from the south. Carlisle has a small airport with the largest international airports at Newcastle and Manchester (100 miles). Main line trains stop at Penrith and Carlisle plus there is a cross country line to Newcastle.
